We are consulting on proposals for an amended scheme to the application 19/2498/F on the same site. L&G began consultation with the Woolwich community on plans for the site in April 2019, before submitting an application in July of that year. We have maintained a dialogue with members of the community throughout this process and are seeking to make several changes to the proposals, which respond to the feedback received from the community and other relevant parties. L&G appointed Patel Taylor Architects to re-design elements of the scheme based on this feedback from local residents, community stakeholders, and the Royal Borough of Greenwich. We submitted our plans to the Royal Borough of Greenwich at the end of May 2020 by successfully incorporating feedback received from this consultation website.

About at-a-distance engagement

The purpose of this website has been to provide effective ‘at a distance’ engagement that informed a Statement of Community Involvement submitted as part of a planning application for the redevelopment of Macbean Street. We are eager to ensure the feedback we have collected here is admissible in the determination of the application and that it is reflective of the local community, who have a direct stake in the future of Woolwich. With this in mind, we advertised the website to all addresses within half a kilometre of the site. While anyone can leave feedback via the website, it is only feedback from local Woolwich residents that will be submitted with the application. This is to ensure that the process and associated feedback mirrors that taken during face-to-face engagement, for example at public exhibitions. We acknowledge that the remote nature of ‘at a distance’ engagement presents the risk that external parties, who are not local stakeholders, may be able to shout over the voices of the local community. We have therefore taken steps to prevent this by asking respondents to provide their postcode, name, and email address. We hope that this will result in greater engagement with planning applications from a greater number of local residents than through traditional means of planning consultation. We understand that confidence in this process from residents and Greenwich Council is of paramount importance. If you have any feedback, ideas or questions regarding the process itself then please do get in contact with one of the team who will be happy to help.
